Unlike the draw poker version, razz players do not have the option to swap their cards with the dealer. Traditionally, a poker player has to have a solid high-card hand in order to win the pot. However, there are many more poker variants on the table, all involving a round of betting.
There are also hundreds of other variants of the game. They vary in the number of cards in play, the deck configuration and the number of rounds required to play a hand. Despite the various variations of the game, a few basic principles remain the same.
The simplest rumor about the game is that it shares ancestry with the French brelan and the German pochen. Although this is not proven, the term “poker” has been attributed to French settlers of New Orleans and the Persian sailors of the U.S. military.
